Join Daniel Alarcón in conversation with Óscar Martínez. Oscar Martinez is the CJS 2019 Spring Global Visiting Fellow. He is the author of the upcoming book, "The Hollywood Kid," the acclaimed "The Beast: Riding the Rails and Dodging Narcos on the Migrant Trail” and “A History of Violence.” He is also the co-founder and reporter for Sala Negra (Black Room), the investigative unit that covers extrajudicial killings by police and gang violence for Central America's foremost online newsmagazine, El Faro. His work has been recognized by the Fernando Benitez National Prize in MEXICO, the Human Rights Prize at the Central American University in El Salvador, the Maria Moors Cabot Award and the CPJ international Press Award. In 2008, Martínez won the Fernando Benítez National Journalism Prize in Mexico, and in 2009, he was awarded the Human Rights Prize at the José Simeón Cañas Central American University in El Salvador.
