We invite you to join University Life for our upcoming panel discussion, Awakening Our Democracy, Racial Justice Outlook: Possibilities of Progress in 2021 and Beyond, Thursday 3/18, at 4:00 PM. In 2020 we witnessed an unprecedented outcry in support of Black Lives, in the largest civil rights movement in American history. How will this movement’s momentum impact the ability to move from conversation to action at all levels of society? What will it look like for community organizers and voters to hold systems of power accountable for racial and economic justice, and how can leadership at the Federal, state, local levels - and at Columbia - advance progress? Among the panelists: - Dennis Mitchell, Vice Provost, Columbia University - Eric Tang, Director, Center for Asian American Studies and Associate Professor, Black Studies at The University of Texas at Austin - Midwin Charles, founder of the law firm Midwin Charles & Associates LLC and commentator on politics, law and pop culture - Nina Alvarez, CBS Assistant Professor of International Journalism, Columbia University Please submit your questions with your event registration. Awakening Our Democracy is the signature conversation series of the Office of University Life and is designed to foster university-wide dialogue about pressing domestic and global issues through conversations with thought-leaders, advocates, journalists and scholars.
