Farah Jasmine Griffin appointed University Professor

Griffin becomes the first member of the Department appointed to the highest academic distinction Columbia confers on faculty.

Farah Jasmine Griffin has been appointed University Professor, according to a University announcement.

Griffin, the William B. Ransford Professor of English and Comparative Literature and of African American Studies, is the first member of the department to be appointed to the honor, which is the highest academic distinction Columbia confers on its faculty. 

Griffin is also a professor of African American Studies and African Diaspora Studies and the director of Undergraduate Studies. The inaugural chair of the Department from 2019-2021, Griffin also serves as program director for The Schomburg Center's Scholars-in-Residence Program.
